‘Mattress Mack’ Has A Wild Bet Of $75 Million On Astros Winning The World Series

James McIngvale is already a legend in the Houston area, but he might reach even greater heights if the Astros defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in this year’s World Series.

Mattress Mack & His Wild Bet On Astros

Owner of the city’s Gallery Furniture businesses and better known as Mattress Mack, McIngvale wagered $10 million earlier this year on the Astros winning the World Series. The winnings from that wager will total $75 million, making it the biggest payout in the history of sports betting.

McIngvale’s success may also benefit his clients. Mattress Mack promises to refund any consumer who buys $3,000 on certain mattresses if the Astros win. Additionally, he will provide free beds on Friday to active duty personnel, veterans, and first responders thanks to a partnership with Caesars Sportsbook.

I like chaos. I get bored if I don’t take risks.” So says 71-year-old Jim McIngvale, known in the United States as ‘Mattress Mack’ for his crazy bets that bring him great winnings and colossal losses.

He placed a wager early in the season on the University of Kansas winning the NCAA basketball championship, and by April, he had already won $10 million.

With this money, he was able to make up the $10 million that he had lost following the Rams’ victory against the Bengals in the Super Bowl. Sometimes he can’t get it properly.

McIngvale placed a wager on the Astros in 2017 when they were the champions. He became a celebrity in Houston as a result of his $8 million win, and the MLB team made him a representative by inviting him to the team’s White House event.

But Mattress Mack’s influence goes far beyond gaming. When Houston’s floodwaters surged in 2017 and people had to flee their homes, McIngvale flung open the doors of Gallery Furniture stores and turned them into shelters, taking in up to 400 people at each location. He repeated it the previous year during the Texas power outage and winter storms. Additionally, in 2021, during Hurricane Ida’s devastation of the Gulf Coast, he offered food and shelter to those in need.

In 2017, he stated, “Our corporate philosophy is… we all have a responsibility to the well-being of our community.” “That is the overarching concept of our society here. When our fellow people are in need, we know that they will return the favour.”
